BMW used 3 digit numerical codes for interior colors into the E36 era (90s) and then went to a upholstery code like the N6TT you cite. The N6 means upholstery type (Montana leather)and the TT means color (gray). I believe that there have been variations among the actual colors over the years and over the different leather or cloth or alcantara

For $8.99 I picked up a can of Dupli-color prep spray and a satin black can of paint for $8.99 as well. I pulled all the trim off and painted each piece one by one. I painted it in my driveway, not in direct sunlight but also was exposed to the elements. It dried super quick!
